Shadows and coffee go together like a trenchcoat and a Borsalino. What else is there to drink when you are doing a stakeout in a film noir? (OK, maybe a drop of whisky would fit the bill as well). Anyway; this image was made in an Amsterdam hotel room. For the animation film I’m directing, I’m spending a lot of time in The Netherlands and I always bring one of my little lights and some drawing paper to my hotel.
When all other objects failed to give me interesting shadows, I turned to the complimentary coffee pads and look: this gumshoe appeared.
You know I love films noir, so it was a real pleasure drawing this.
Instead of buying an over expensive coffee from some pretentious Barista downtown: support your local shadowologist!
